Herpes Treatments for SufferersWho needs Herpes Treatments? I thought I did after a test revealed I had the virus which was a complete shock to me as I had no symptoms. Before I got married, the vicar who was to perform the ceremony said to my fiancé and I, "If any of you have had unprotected intercourse with other partners before you met, then you owe it to each other to get tested at the sexually transmitted disease clinic before you join hands in holy matrimony. We both went along to get tested with confidence armed with the knowledge that we had both been careful with previous partners, and that we hadn't been promiscuous or shown any signs or symptoms of having anything wrong with us in that department at any point during our adult lifetime. So when my results came back at the sexually transmitted disease clinic with a positive result for genital herpes, I was totally flabbergasted. But thankfully, after answering a few question put forward by the doctor, it was revealed that the test for herpes does not distinguish between oral herpes, identified as cold sores, and the genetal herpes virus.
I have been fortunate in as much as my last mouth sore was quite some years back, but the doctor pointed out that the virus stays in our system until the day we die. Outbreaks can be frequent, occasional, or very rare, depending on the individual and the lifestyle they lead. It was interesting to discover that there are in fact 2 types of the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). The common cold sore or fever blisters are caused by what is known in medical circles as HSV-1. HSV-2 is generally causes what is commonly referred to as genital herpes. Although these 2 virus are categorised they both share some common characteristics in as much as neither HSV-1 or HSV-2 are fussy where they infect, be that in the neighborhood of the mouth or the genitalia. This means that although the 2 types are typically found in their respective areas, they can be transmitted to other areas where there is both skin and mucous membranes. This means that if a person suffering an outbreak of either HSV-1 or HSV-2, they can easily pass it on from mouth to genitals or visa versa. Most Common Herpes TreatmentsWhatever complaints we humans have, the treatments and cures can be quite varied and the reason is this; what works for one might not necessarily work for another, as we all react differently to medications and natural remedies. Common herpes treatments include oral and topical solutions with anti-viral creams being the most popular. Essential oils have been proven effective in some cases as have medicinal herbs, and oxygen therapy. Of course, the severity of the outbreak has to be determined and also the type, i.e. HSV-1 (oral) or HSV-2 (genital). Some patients find that combinations of various treatments are necessary, especially in that first outbreak of genetal herpes. Natural Herpes TreatmentsThe world is hungry for natural and alternative treatments for just about any ailment these days and herpes is no exception. Proven effective are various herbs and vitamins (see pharmacist for latest information), and some popular choices are lavender, myrrh, sage, olive leaf extract, red marine algae and L-lysine. Even though a person infected with the herpes virus has it in their system for life, outbreaks can be prevented or certainly reduced by eating healthily, getting regular exercise and also by remembering to rest and relax so as to reduce stress levels. Stress and being generally run down is now known to weakens the immune system and this is when you are most likely to suffer an outbreak.
